CANBY, Ore.– Santiam’s Boston Flores has always been a competitor, and this Summer has been no different.
Playing one last summer of ball before heading to college, where she’ll be pursuing a degree in Pre-Dentistry, the 2025 Wolverine-grad has been contributing with the Ignite 18U squad out of Salem. Getting some valuable reps in the sport that she loves to play.
“I’ve always been super competitive. It’s in my family. Regardless of whether it’s an easy game or a really hard game, I always want to win. Even if I’m doing bad, I want to be able to put my energy somewhere else. Like I wasn’t able to have a great at-bat, but I figured I can do good either on the field or by cheering,” said Flores. “I always have that determination to win. So that’s what keeps me going on these hot days and just harder games.”
Flores, who pitched for Santiam this year and filling the void at pitcher for the Wolverines where she got 2A/1A State Honorable Mention as a pitcher, played in the middle infield for the Ignite on Sunday. The squad finished third in the 18U State Tournament at Maple Street Park in Canby.
A leader for the Wolverines, Flores is trying to channel that into this Summer with her travel ball squad.
“This game has made me who I am. I created a lot of lifelong friends and life lessons from it, it’s been a big part of who I am,” Flores said of the sport. “(Being a leader) was a big role for me to take on. Especially in tighter games…it’s a lot, but it definitely feels good to know when we’re getting loud in the dugout and we get screaming and get the momentum going, it’s because I keep pushing them or we all keep pushing each other.”
