SPARKS, Nev.– The Post 58 Crushers opened Friday’s doubleheader in Reno carrying over the momentum from Friday’s comeback victory over Reno. Their bats rallied, scoring seven unanswered after trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the third inning against the Dirty Dozen 18U squad to take their opening game of the day 8-4.
“It was big. We never really got down. We just brought the energy back up higher than it already was,” said Silverton’s Colson Swartz.
Wyatt Postlewait and Scotty Cummings each drove in two runs, and Kennedy’s Brody Panuke struck out five batters in four-and-a-third innings in the opening game. Stayton’s Colton Connally pitched two-and-two-third innings of no-hit baseball to close out the first game.
In the second game, however, it was a challenge on both sides of the ball against the LBA 2025 18U squad. LBA came out firing on offense, challenging the Crusher defense as the Post 58 offense was kept in check in LBA’s 11-1, seven inning victory. A good test for the Crushers going into Saturday’s doubleheader to close out pool play in the Reno Tournament.
“They’re a great ballclub, and we’re going to see a lot of competition like that, so it feels good, and now we know what to expect. We know that we can compete with these guys. We just got to piece it together,” Swartz said.
Swartz led the Post 58 in Game 2 with two hits, a run driven in and struck out one in two-and-two-third innings pitching in the defeat.
