NEWBERG, Ore.–  The grind never stops in the world of Softball.
Less than a day, two days come Sunday, after seeing her Dayton Pirate Softball team finish 3A State Runner-Up, Rachel Baumholtz was back on the softball diamond with her club team the MVP 16U squad up at the Darnell Wright Sports Complex.
Baumholtz, who’s finishing up her junior year, is already preparing for her senior year of softball with these extra reps in preparation to hopefully contribute to Dayton again this next Spring.
“It went really well.  I’m really proud of my girls on my team.  We  had a really strong year.  Even the few losses that we did had, we were strong and came back and made our adjustments.  It was a really good season,” said Baumholtz. “I’m going to work on the little things.  The little adjustments in pitching and hitting that I need to work on.  Just those smaller factors to mesh the puzzle together a little better.”
In five games pitching for the MVP 16U squad on Saturday and Sunday, Baumholtz went seven-and-a-third innings pitching with 16 strikeouts and drove in three runs on four hits to contributed towards MVP’s 3-2 weekend at the Darnell Wright Sports Complex.  The squad went 2-1 on Sunday after going 1-1 in Pool Play on Saturday up in Newberg as the squad officially kicks off their Summer schedule of games.
“We’re a new team together, so there’s little bumps here and there that we need to smooth out.  But I think once we’ve played together a little bit longer, we’ll mesh together.  It’s a really good team,” said Baumholtz.
Some notables from this past weekend for MVP.  Perrydale’s Isabelle Arther struck out six in three-and-a-third innings pitching and drove in four runs.  Kassidi Hedin hit a three-run home run Saturday against the Comets Fastpitch 16U squad.  Gena Thomas drove in four run,  and Dayden Bell drove in four runs as well with six hits on the weekend.
