SWEET HOME, Ore.– Blanchet’s James Barnett has slowly made a name for himself as one of the State’s Top throwers entering his junior year.
As a sophomore, Barnett placed fifth in the shot put and fourth in the discus, laying the foundation for what he hopes to be a strong junior season this year.
“It’s really helpful with confidence in being able to push myself and having that experience to push forward for this year,” said Barnett.
And Saturday was just another day at the office for Barnett. A tough day for sure as he threw Discus and Shot Put at the Meet of Champions at Sweet Home High School, Barnett PR’d in the Shot Put with a throw 46-feet-11-inches, good enough for fifth-place in the event at the Meet.
“To see good people throw and have that competition, it’s really going to help me get used to it. So, being able to see these really good throwers really helps me perform under pressure,” Barnett said. “Just work in the weight room, drilling and stuff.”
Molly Mucken, another state placer for the Cavaliers who was at the Meet, placed third in the Shot Put and Discus while finishing just outside of the podium in Javelin with a tenth-place finish at the Meet.
Coming off of winning the 2A State Title in the Discus, third place in the Shot Put and 15th in the Javelin, Mucken is hoping that she can continue going uphill with Districts coming up in the coming weeks.
“It’s going good, I hope it keeps going uphill,” Mucken said.
Geo Escobar finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a PR time of 42.62. Bella Vargas finished second in the Long Jump with a PR jump of 15-feet-8.5-inches, and Tatum Fleming finished sixth.Fleming also finished sixth in the Triple Jump
