MEDFORD, Ore.– The Dayton Softball team finished off their preseason slate 5-0 and finished the North Medford Tournament 4-0 following their 25-0 win over Hoopa of California and 15-0 win over Elmira/Mapleton Tuesday morning.
Their offense came around during their four-game slate in Medford, scoring 54 runs. Their defense, anchored by the three-headed monster they have pitching in Charly Upmeyer, Gabby Chupp and Rachel Baumholtz, allowed four runs in Medford.
Interestingly those four runs are the only runs they’ve allowed in their first five games of the year.
“We got a pretty good trio of arms, they all can throw hard. They can throw a bit different and unique in their own respect, I’m pretty happy in where we’re at as a pitching staff and we’re ready to go into league,” said Dayton Head Coach Frank Baumholtz. “We needed to see some people in positions to see where we’re at moving forward going into league on Monday.
“The girls, their bats we’re alive. I was telling the girls today, we had a great approach at the plate. We squared balls up even when we’re behind two strikes, it was great to get down here and get four wins and go into league play where we thought we’d be and now we got to keep it going.”
The Pirates open PacWest Conference play Monday at Taft.
