MEDFORD, Ore.– The Cascade Softball team opened Day two of the North Medford Tournament with a gutsy 4-3 victory over 6A Canby Tuesday morning in Medford.
That game, which went eight innings, saw the Cougars score twice in the eighth inning off a Malia Scanlan double to take a 4-2 lead into the bottom half of the eighth inning. Cascade then clamped down defensively and held the 6A Cougars to a S. St. John lead-off single, in extra inning softball, there is a runner on second base, and nothing more as they went into their second game of the day against Churchill.
“The Canby game was great for us, we haven’t had a game like that the last two years where it’s a Top Playoff opponent, tough playoff style,” describes Cascade Head Coach Marty Jeppesen. “And to pull a victory against them was going to pay huge dividends down the road. We’re really happy with the week.
“We had our post game talk and anyone who had any doubts about how good we can be or how good we will be, that eased all doubts of how good that they can be. So hopefully, they can come out of it with a lot of confidence, and hopefully, it carries over when we start league and hopefully roll this momentum through the rest of the season.”
The 4A Cougars closed out the 4-0 week in Medford with a 15-0, three-inning, victory over Churchill Lexie Gidcumb, Paytn McKenzie and Maddy Tingle each drove in two runs in that final game.
Cascade heads to Junction City on April 3.
