SALEM, Ore. — West Albany-grad Andrew Yost picked up where he left off with the Bulldogs and the Mid-Valley Southpaws Saturday morning with the Chemeketa Community College Baseball team
Pitching against Walla Walla, Yost went all seven innings of the 13-0 mercy-rule game, allowing four hits and struck out one. The defense was on point, and so were the bats to support Yost and the Storm defense.
“It was pretty big, I love high school (ball), I love Legion, and it reminds me so much of it now,” said Yost of his first collegiate start. “After that first inning four-spot, it was like, “Yep. I got the rock, and my offense has my back, so I don’t have to worry about anything. I just got to throw strikes.”
The win was the third-in-a-row for Chemeketa as they won the four game series against Walla Walla before they took the series sweep Saturday afternoon 2-0. Six games in three days is a daughting task as they played Lower Columbia back on Thursday in a double header, dropping two close games against LC and enter the second week of the season 4-2 on the season.
“We’re looking really good right now. I think we’re contenders this year, I think we can do something,” said Yost. “Team chemistry is insane. It’s amazing. Everyone really likes each other, and i think we’ll continue to build off of that and keep doing what we’re doing.”
