DAYTON, Ore.– The fatigue from Thursday night’s game was there for the Regis Boys Basketball team as they came off of their two-point, overtime victory over De La Salle North Catholic. Despite that however, the Rams came out swinging Friday evening against Harrisburg as they led 20-10 after one quarter and led 44-27 at the halftime break.
That second quarter was led by Lucas Koehnke as the sophomore scored all 15 of his points in that second quarter to help Regis extend their lead to nearly 20 by the intermission. And that energy sustained into the third quarter with the 2A Rams leading the Eagles 65-49.
“We came out really hot. We were hitting shots, passing the ball around, had great defense and ball movement,” said Fletcher Gould, who scored nine of his 26 points in the third quarter.
Both Gould and Isaiah Koehnke were the consistent go-getters for when Regis needed a bucket as both scored over 20 points each in what would be a 79-64 victory. Gould led the way with 26 points and the older Koehnke contributed another 24.
Harrisburg weren’t going to go down without a fight however. The Eagles, after the first quarter, managed to trade baskets with the Rams, but it wasn’t until the fourth quarter in which they were able to make up some ground against Regis. Some defensive stops for Harrisburg turned into points as they cut the once 16 point deficit to start the fourth quarter, down to a six-point game with 2:42 left in the game.
It was now 69-63 thanks to the 14-4 run by the Eagles. It was a challenge presented by Harrisburg, and it was something that Regis accepted as they rose to the occasion and closed out the game. Improving to 2-0 in the Dayton Holiday Tournament.
“It was a big thing, we started to lockdown on defense and start making better shots, passing decent shots for better shots,” said Gould. “We really need to come out hot tomorrow and we really need to lock in for the game.”
Regis closes out the Dayton Holiday Tournament Saturday against Yamhill-Carlton at 3:30pm at Dayton High School. Terren Crabb led Harrisburg with 19 points, the Eagles close out the Tournament Saturday at 4:45pm against Catlin Gabel in the Old Gym at Dayton High School.
