AURORA, Ore.– The North Marion Girls Basketball team are entering the third year of the Kyle Buse-era with a point to prove this year.
They got the talent, with Oregon West Conference Second-Team All Selection Riley Patzer and Honorable Mention selection Hannah Jones. Their defense has steadily improved, their offense is coming not too far behind that. The Huskies were knocking on the door of a 4A Play-In spot last season.
But now, another year older with experience in Buse’s system, the Huskies are poised to be one of those sleeper teams in the OWC and possibly in 4A this Winter.

“Just continuing from our defense from last year. Our defense last year was one of our strong suit that we had, just building off of that and our offense. I think we can be one of those teams. Just being super encouraging, I think we can make that happen,” Patzer said.”We’re focused on being the best defensive team in our conference. Whether it’s man or zone, we’re putting in all the work now to hopefully see in games coming up,” adds Jones. “We’ve been playing together for so long and building that team chemistry, seeing each other on the court in another way is really going to help with all five of us.”
Jones spoke to how their offense stepped up last season and how important it’s going to be for them to continue that development into this year.
North Marion opens the season at Gladstone on Wednesday before hosting Douglas Friday at 7 pm for their home opener.
