SALEM, Ore. — Cristian Gonzalez has had a tough season to this point, the ups-and-downs that come with the sport.
But the Blanchet junior has stayed the course. He pushed through the adversity and on Tuesday night, with the 3A State Playoffs starting, the good Soccer Fortunes came his way. Of the three goals that the Cavaliers scored in their 3-1 victory, two came way of Gonzalez.
And those two goals were big. Both came in the first half and helped Blanchet build a 2-1 halftime lead for the Cavs entering the second half.
“They were great, they were great. I’ve had a rough season, it’s probably one of my toughest seasons and I feel like they were special to me. It was a way to come back, especially towards the end of the season and running into State. It was a good way to get the goals,” said Gonzalez.
The Cavaliers added to their lead five minutes into the second half, pushing their lead to two goals. Blanchet pitched a second half shutout to advance in the 3A State Playoffs, they’ll travel to Medford to play St. Mary’s with a shot at the 3A State Quarterfinals on the line if they win.
“”It was a very passionate, very physical (game). You know how it is when you get to State,” Gonzalez said of the game on Tuesday. “It’s great and we know the Seniors, if we would go on to win a State Title, we only got a certain amount of games left with them, so just enjoy each moment with them.”
