PLEASANT HILL, Ore.– Oh what a year would make.
Last season, with a young squad, the Scio Volleyball team won four games. This season, the Loggers have returned to form. They won the regular season PacWest Conference Title back on Thursday at Harrisburg, their first since 2021. Their 16 wins, has been the most since 2024 as they seem to have returned to form with the same group of girls from that four-win team a season ago.
“To come out this year, same group of kids and to clean it up and get their confidence up. This just shows that they have the ability the whole time, they just needed to take it up a notch,” said Scio Head Coach Kate O’Connor. “Right now, we just need to work on our State RPI to get into the Top 16. We won league, so we got a playoff spot, we need to keep winning to get that higher RPI.”
On Saturday, the Loggers took part in the Pleasant Hill Invitational, going 3-1 on the tournament, defeating Mazama, Blanchet and Harrisburg in straight sets in their first, third and fourth matches of the day. The only defeat came to host-Pleasant Hill in three sets in their second game of the day. That game against the Billies showed them where they can improve from, starting with their final two matches on the day, as they make the late season push for the 3A State Playoffs.
“It was good, I wish we could go back and do Pleasant Hill again, but it was a good fight,” said O’Connor. “They were very good at pushing tips into tight spots or corners…It’s more intentional practice on certain things. Like now we know we need to work on our short serving, receiving a short-serve, and working on covering tips a little bit better. I need to write some more intentional practice plans with drills of that nature.”
Scio will close out the season with Blanchet on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season at Gervais.
