SALEM, Ore.– The Chemeketa Community College and the Clackamas Community College Women’s Soccer teams went to battle on Saturday afternoon at Corban University.
The two squads, who have been in the upper half of the NWAC South Region in recent years, did their offensive damage in the first 45 minutes with the Storm leading 2-1 going into halftime.
Olivia Crofoot (West Salem) and Tatum Kiger (Sprague) scored the goals for Chemeketa. Crofoot got the Storm on the board in the tenth minute with Kiger adding her score five minutes later in the 15th minute of the game.
“I feel like those first 15 minutes and scoring that goal and that assist, it was an adrenaline rush and bringing it into the second half with momentum,” said Crofoot of the offense in the first half “This win means a lot going into the next game. We have to come through.”
In the second half, both the Storm and Cougars defense’s rose to the occasion. They were faced with offensive intensity and were tested often, but both defenses never conceded a goal in the final half of the NWAC South Region game.
Parkrose-grad Addison Mulkey had a game-high ten saves in the game on Saturday as Chemeketa closed out the 2-1 victory, improving to 3-1-1 in NWAC South Region Play and 5-2-1 overall.
“We got to hold it down. This league is very tight. Everyone is pretty equal this year. So we’re all really hoping to win Region again and we just have to keep getting the dubs,” said Mulkey. “It was a tense and tight moment trying to get the win because they were attacking a lot in the second half, but thanks to my defense I was able to hold it down in the back so I could end up helping them.”
The Storm will close out the first loop through NWAC South Region play this next week when they travel to play Southwestern Oregon Community College on Wednesday and host Lane on Saturday at Corban University.
