KEIZER, Ore.– The preseason for the McNary Boys Soccer team has been a tough one.
Two of their four non-league games featured teams ranked in the Top 10 in the latest coaches poll with McMinnville (fifth) and South Eugene (tenth). It was a good preview of what lies ahead for the Celtics in the Central Valley Conference in their pursuit for their fifth-straight league Title this Fall.
They know now, entering Thursday’s CVC League opener against North Salem what they need to work on. Defense was a hair behind as they look to sharpen that up. The offense was there, they pulled out a 2-2 tie against Tigard on September 10, and they had their chances in their 4-0 defeat to the Axe of South Eugene on Tuesday to get on the board. It just was a matter of finishing those opportunities moving forward when they present themselves.
Nonetheless, the Celtics enter league play battle-tested and ready to see what they can do against their league opponents starting Thursday.
“Playing against the top two teams in the Willamette Valley in McMinnvile and this team. It gives us a good look of what challenges are ahead of us. It gave us a good warm-up for our conference and I think going into at North, we’ll have a good taste of what it’s going to take to win. It was a big challenge, but we’ll do good in the future,” said Totti Perez.
