STAYTON, Ore.– The Regis Volleyball team have entered this year coming off of their first playoff appearance since the 2018 season.
And despite graduating four seniors from last year’s squad, they return a young nucleus as the Rams hope to return to the 2A Postseason this year.
After dropping their first game of the year, a four-set game with Crosshill Christian, the Rams have wheeled off three-straight wins including Wednesday night’s 25-10, 25-16, 25-13 sweep of North Clackamas Christian.
“They like to play. I think they prefer to play than practice. It’s hard coming off a big win and staying in it mentally, but I think the girls did a really good job of that tonight. I’m really proud of them and we got another one tomorrow,” said Regis Head Coach Miriam Castillo.
The Rams were entering their home opener coming off a pair of Tri-River Conference wins on Tuesday night at St. Paul. Regis swept Colton to close out the night, but opened the doubleheader with a four-set victory over the Buckaroos. St. Paul, who returned to 2A after a incredible run at 1A the past few years, was a big game and victory for the squad to kick off the four games in three days stretch.
“The win was a big deal for us because we know St. Paul is a competitor and we knew that they were going to be a challenge. I’m really proud of my girls for playing the way we’ve been practicing so we could go in there and win that game,” Castillo said. “St. Paul is a great program and they’re going to do great things this year.”
The Rams set the tone in the opening set of Wednesday’s game against the Saints, taking the first set in dominant fashion. North Clackamas Christian rebounded and trailed Regis 15-10 in the second set before the Rams pulled away for the 25-16 second set victory. Regis used that momentum from closing out that second set and carried it into the third set, jumping out to a 12-2 lead and sailed towards the three-set sweep to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Rams will host Country Christian on Thursday to close out their busy week before heading to Mill City on Tuesday to take on Santiam in a TRC League Game.
