DUFUR, Ore.– The Colton Football team ipened the season with a gritty win. But a win is a win as the Vikings open the season with a 40-34 victory over Enterprise at the Dufur Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The offense for Colton came around late in the win in a game where they’re using as a good stepping stone going into Week 2 of the season.
“Definitely a defensive struggle for sure, we got to figure it out. Offense, we started to figure it out there at the end, blocking started to do way better,” said Cash Mead.
The standards with the Vikings Football team has established itself into a 2A State Football Playoff team.
Three years ago, they were a two win team. Two years ago, they won the 2A Special District 2 Title and made the playoffs. Last year in a tough Special District 2 conference with St. Paul and the re-emergence of Santiam, the Vikings made it once again to the 2A State Playoffs.
This year, the goal is the same. Make the playoffs, but this time they’re hoping to make it beyond the first round of the State Playoffs.
“My freshman year we went 2-7 and then we got Coach Brian (Faulhaber) and he’s really good. We just came out and started working really hard , we’ve just been working super hard,” said Brady Casten. “We had a lot of training (this Summer) and we came out and got ot done. We got to work on a lot of defensive stuff.”
Colton heads to Central Linn on September 11 before hosting Sheridan for their home opener on September 18.
