ROSEBURG, Ore.– St. Paul’s Jack Gregory sparked a huge sixth inning rally for the Post 58 Single-A squad in Game 2 of their Doubleheader split with the Roseburg Pepsi Bottlecaps on Saturday afternoon.
The bats were going through a lull in the second game after the opening game that saw Post 58 produced 11 runs on 13 hits in their 11-7 road victory. But with Gregory’s one-hit single, he sparked a four-run inning.
“It was huge, the whole game is about momentum. So being able to help the guys, I won’t say I started momentum, but helping out getting a feel and get baserunners on to help move us a long a little bit better,” Gregory said.
After Gregory’s single, Post 58 loaded up the bases and went to work. Peyton Alloway (St. Paul), Collin Spurgeon (Woodburn) and Trevon Grassham each drove in runs as they drew to within one of the Pepsi Bottlecaps, trailing the Roseburg Single-A team 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Spurgeon turned a quick inning, but so did Roseburg to close out the doubleheader with a split at Legion Field.
“The first game went really well, we got the bats going really early on in the game. We had some great pitching and some great fielding. Just some really solid defense witb some really solid offense,” Gregory starts of the doubleheader. “The second game, we were moving pretty good too. Really solid pitching, really solid fielding. We didn’t really show up on the hit side as much as we wanted too, but near the end of the game we started to put more pressure on them. That’s four run inning really helped a lot.”
Gregory had three hits and drove in a run for Post 58. Isaac Bailey struck out five batters pitching in Game 2. Callen DuLong struck out two pitching while picking up two hits at the plate.
