STAYTON, Ore.– Silverton’s Marley Wertz enters her senior year so close to school history.
She’s one goal from tying the school record, the record is 51 and Wertz is currently at 50 and closing in to the career assists record. That assist record is at 23 and the incoming senior is at 21 currently.
“I don’t think it was ever going into High School going ‘oh, I’m going to break all these records’, it was really just improving and getting better, getting used to a new position because I never played Striker before,” said Wertz. “But I couldn’t do any of that without my teammates, without any of my teammates, I couldn’t do any of it, so I give a lot of thanks to them.”
Wednesday evening saw the Foxes play Stayton in a summer league game coming off of their first four summer training sessions of the season. And with them looking to replace six seniors in some key spots, it’s a good start to see how everyone gels and comes together before the season really kicks off in August.
It also gives Wertz an opportunity to sharpen her leadership skills even more as she enters her final season at Silverton.
“It feels like a fresh start. It’s been a minute since I touched a soccer ball, so it feels good to get out here with my teammates and get the chemistry going,” said Wertz.
The Foxes will have another Summer League game with West Salem in the coming days as Silverton looks to duplicate last Fall again into this Fall.
