AMITY, Ore.–  The Amity Girls Flag Football team’s defense once again proved to be a tough out.
Using their speed and athleticism to fuel an aggressive style of play, the Warriors have taken the girls flag football scene by storm. Tuesday’s 67-7 victory over Scappoose was no exception.
Amity’s defense set the tone early, recording four first-half interceptions while holding Scappoose to just two trips across midfield. Capitalizing on consistently short fields, Amity built a commanding 54-7 halftime lead over its 4A opponent.
The Warriors four-game shutout streak ended towards the end of the first quarter thanks to a Aubrey Haas- Hailey Irwin connection.  Irwin worked her way through the Warrior defense to cut the lead to 27-7 at the time.  But it didn’t seem to affect the Warriors much as they just stayed locked in and kept churning away towards their 9-0 record at the moment.
“We’re all 100-percent, ‘get the ball, get the ball, get the ball’.  It was how we were in all of our sports that we’ve played together.  We’re all so competitive and we want to win so bad.  So I think it stems from that,” said Emma Northrop.  “We all came out and wanted to play with this group again and we ended up being super, super good at it.”
Haley Miersma was involved with five of the Amity’s touchdowns in the first half, either through the air or on the ground.  Eliza Nisly added a Pick-6 and Adie Nisly had a rushing score in the first half.  And in the second half, Adelynnne Slowik scored twice, once in the air to Eliza Nisly and on a keeper to push the Amity point total towards 70.
The Warriors will look to close out the undefeated regular season Wednesday when they travel to Salem to play McKay.
“We’ll build off it and perfect our routes, perfect our passing and get ready for playoffs for sure,” Northrop said.
The game starts at 7:30pm at McKay High School.
