KEIZER, Ore.– The bats of the McNary softball team really came around after a slow start.
It started small. A three-run third inning turned a 0-0 game at this point into a 3-0 lead in favor of the Celtics. The defense that had been stellar up to this point, continued their trek.
And then. The pay-off.
A nine-run inning. Turning that already 3-0 lead into a 12-0 lead by inning’s end and swinging momentum fully on their side.
“It was really good, we really feed off of each other. I feel like when one of us gets a good hit, everyone else gets a good hit and I love how we all have good energy towards one another, we all passed it on,” said Violet Siegel. “The defense was really good. We were backing each other up, and we were making the plays that we had too make.”
Siegel drove in a team-high 4RBI’s in the win with two hits. Natalie Macik, Macy Fessler and Maddie Sponable each had two hits as well.
The Celtic defense closed out the game in the top half of the fifth inning to close out the game 12-0 in five innings. Ashlyn Wittnebel pitched a one-hitter while striking out 12 in the process as McNary improves to 7-2 on the year.
