MEDFORD, Ore.– The Cascade Softball team finally saw their bats come around in their 5-4 victory over Central/Falls City on Monday afternoon in Medford.
They trailed the Panthers, in a preview of an Oregon West Conference match-up next Spring, 4-2 when Maddy Tingle singled to open the inning. An out, followed by a walk and a groundout followed. But then, luck found its way to the Cougars way.
Cassidy Crabtree drove two runs home to tie the game up at four and, with the next At-Bat with Kaityln Webb, Cascade took a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning.
“It was definitely a big win for us. We knew we had to come back in that inning and collect some hits because the last couple of games has been a little rough. We’ve been on a losing streak, but we pulled together,” said Crabtree.
Cascade turned a quick one, two, three inning to close out the game that helped snap their four-game losing streak going into their Medford finale on Tuesday.
“We just need more practice, we need more reps. Live reps are definitely better than at practice or off the Tee when you’re warming up, it’s going to set us on a good path going into some more non-league games and then going into the league,” said Crabtree.
Cascade closes out the North Medford Invitational with another doubleheader on Tuesday. The Cougars will play St. Helens and Glide.
Taylor Bays struck out seven batters in the doubleheader to go with two hits. and Crabtree had a team-high three hits.
