The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club honored West Salem’s Abby Evans (Girls Swimming), West Salem’s Jarrod Coy (Boys Swimming), South Salem’s Calvin Stewart (Boys Swimming), South Salem’s Zach Barnett (Boys Swimming), South Salem’s Dennis Dreischmeyer (Boys Swimming), Sprague’s Lucy Jones (Girls Basketball), McNary’s Andrea Guevara (Girls Basketball), West Salem’s Solveig Ingebrigsten (Girls Swimming), McNary’s Evy Hales (Girls Swimming) and Sprague’s Carly Skogstad (Girls Basketball) at this past Friday’s meeting.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from Sprague Girls Basketball, is senior Carly Skogstad.
From her coach, Coach Nelson:
“In a game we needed to win to make the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time in a very long time, Carly finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Carly is averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists on the season. She has been a varsity player for four years and has remained committed to the program. At a time when many athletes transfer schools due to tough situations, Carly stayed dedicated and has consistently improved each year. This season, she is averaging career highs in every statistical category.”
This is Carly’s fourth Athlete of the Week honor for basketball.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from South Salem Boys Swimming is senior Calvin Stewart.
Head Coach Brittney Awalt says of Calvin:
“Calvin is a 4-year varsity swimmer and a team captain. He scored 37 points in the district meet. He was a member of three relay teams, finishing in 1st place on two of them and 2nd on the other. He also won the 50 freestyle.”
This is Calvin’s first Athlete of the Week honor for swimming. He has also been honored twice for track and field.

“Zach is a 3-year varsity swimmer. Like Dennis, Zach scored 40 points at the district meet. He placed 1st in the individual medley, 1st in the 500 free, and 1st in 400 free relay. He went lifetime best in evey event.”

“In only his first year for the Saxons, Dennis scored 40 points at the district meet. He finished 1st as a member of the 200 medley relay, 1st as a member of the 200 free style relay, 1st in the 100 free, and 1st in the 100 backstroke.”

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athletes of the Week, from Sprague Girls Basketball, is sophomore Lucy Jones.
From her coach, Rodney Nelson:
“Lucy is a sophomore and only 15 years old, yet she plays well beyond her years and has consistently improved each season. She is one of the most selfless people you will ever meet, caring more about her teammates’ success than her own. She is a true team player.
Lucy has been a key contributor for the Olys. She is averaging 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists on the season. She scored 31 points on the road against North Medford and had 27 points in the first half against South Eugene. Without Lucy, we would not have made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, as she led the team in scoring against McNary with 19 points.”
Lucy is moving to California after this season.
This is Lucy’s first Athlete of the Week honor.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from McNary Girls Swimming, is senior Andrea Guevara.
From her coach Kyla Howard:
“Andrea is our second-highest scorer on the girls’ team this season with 112 points. She has been undefeated in the 100 breaststroke during our regular-season meets. At districts, she placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.18 and third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:36.13. She represented McNary at the state meet this past weekend in the 100 breaststroke.
Andrea is a four-year varsity swimmer. She is graduating from CTEC in the cosmetology program and plans to attend Oregon State in the fall.”
This is Andrea’s first Athlete of the Week recognition.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from West Salem Girls Swimming is sophomore Solveig Ingebrigtsen.
From Head Coach Dan Evans:
“Solveig has had an outstanding season. She ended the season as second on the team in total points with 155. In a recent victory over South Salem, she scored 14 points, winning the 100 fly and swimming on the winning 200 free and 400 free relays. At districts, she won the 100 fly, placed second in the 50 free, and was part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.
She had a great state meet as well. She swam on the 200 free relay which placed 4th and the 400 free relay which placed 5th. Both were school records. She was seeded 18th in the 50 free and placed 13th. She took 10th in the 100 fly.
She is homeschooled, very involved with her church group, and a strong student.”
This is Solveig’s second Athlete of the Week for swimming.

Evy’s coach, Kyla Howard says:
“Evy has been one of our most successful female swimmers over the past four years. She is our girls’ high scorer this season with 116 points. At districts this year, she placed 2nd in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.60 and 3rd in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.31.
She has been a member of our varsity team all four years of high school. She is graduating from CTEC in the cosmetology program. Evy is a strong leader who consistently encourages her teammates.”

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club OlsenDaines Senior Athlete of the Year for Girls Swimming is Abby Evans.
Abby, the daughter of head swim coach Dan Evans, has been a 4-year varsity swimmer for the Titans. Like teammate Jarrod Coy, Abby has been outstanding throughout her high school career, a top Central Valley Conference performer, and state qualifier year-after-year.
At 6A State she swam in the 100-free, the 200-free, the 200-free relay, and the 400-free relay. As a member of the relays she helped her team finish 4th and 5th, scoring 22 points for the Titans. Abby finished the season as the team MVP, scoring 268 points and graduates as the all-time points leader at 1132. She also completes her career with four school records: the 1000-free, 200-fly, 200-free relay, and 400-free relay.
Abby is a four-time Athlete of the Week for girls swimming.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club OlsenDaines Senior Athlete of the Year for Boys Swimming is Jarrod Coy.
Jarrod has been a 4-year varsity swimmer for the Titans. As with teammate Abby Evnas, he has been outstanding throughout his high school career, dominating in the Central Valley Conference, and qualifying for the state swim meet year-after-year.
Jarrod finished his Titan career this past Saturday as the state champion in the 100 Fly. He also placed 4th in the 200 Free. He scored 16 points for West Salem.
Jarrod is a four-time Athlete of the Week for boys swimming.
