TURNER, Ore.– All the work in the classroom and on the field, both leading her to All-State status, had led to this point for Cascade senior Amyah Miranda on Wednesday afternoon:
Signing Her Letter of Intent to play softball at Corban University.
Some would say it was hard, or tedious, but Miranda looked at it as just part of the journey that she embraced. An opportunity of sorts to make sure her goals and dreams came to fruition.
“I view it as such an opportunity and I’m so thankful for the people around me to allow me to have those opportunities, like my parents and my family, my friends and my supporters. It allowed me to pave my path throughout these last four years and to give me the opportunity to go on and play college ball, I think it’s nothing short of a blessing,” said Miranda.
The Warriors, entering their second year under Jeff Covalt, who’s coached a little bit locally in the travel ball circuit and saw both of his kids play baseball and softball at McNary in Keizer, has been task in building up the Corban program. The Warriors won four games last season, but one of them came against NAIA and Cascade Collegiate Conference juggernaut Southern Oregon University in April of 2025.
Miranda knows the challenge is there to help achieve that goal, but she is excited to see what she can do once she gets to campus next year.
“To play with Jeff is such an amazing opportunity. I love him, I’ve known him for a little bit here. He’s super funny, but he’s really cares about winning and hates losing and that’s something he and I share. Just to play with him and to be exposed to a culture like that is just awesome. It’s something I want to be at in life and I’m excited to see what changes that he brings to Corban. I’m excited to see that culture that we bring and create,” Miranda said.
In the meantime, Miranda still has her Senior season ahead of her. The Cougars are looking forward towards another strong season and the hopes of a deep 4A Playoff run this Spring. To lead her squad, and being one of the squad’s leaders at Catcher, has been a privilege said Miranda and is something she’s looking forward doing again this upcoming season.
“It’s fun to make an impact. I don’t want to be known as a softball player, but as a good person and a person who’s supports and loves. Love the game but also love the people,” starts Miranda. “It’s a privilege to guide such amazing girls, especially being a catcher behind the plate. People view it as a leadership role. But to lead, I feel like it depends on the girls you’re leading and they’ve made it so easy to work with my pitchers and my corners and my outfielders, all the way to the bench, they’ve been such great supporters. It’s been awesome.”
