SILVERTON, Ore. — The Woodburn Boys Basketball team came into the 2025-2026 season with a lot of youth on their roster, returning only Anthony Figueredo and Logan Pankey as players with Varsity experience.
And with Enrique Sandoval at the helm, the expectations of them, and for them, are still as high as before.
“It’s a lot of the little things, just overexplaining everything because it’s a different level, different speed, intensity, from what they’re used to. Just a lot of questions back and forth, just trying to set a good example too. To lead the way so the other guys can pick up,” said Figueredo.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs bounced back in the second round of the Silverton tournament as they defeated Liberty 59-46.
Woodburn led the Falcons 31-24 at the halftime break, but were able to push their lead to double figures by the start of the fourth quarter behind energy they carried over from the opening half.
Liberty made a run midway through the fourth quarter, getting the game back to single-digits, but the Bulldogs were able to close out the game for their second victory of the season on Sunday.
“It’s great, we have a tough preseason, playing all these 6A teams. This is really helping us nail down our offense and click better on defense, rotate more. Especially against faster and more athletic teams, it’s really setting us up for success,” said Figueredo.
Figueredo led Woodburn with 21 points and Pankey contributed another 10 in the victory. Woodburn heads to plat Gresham on Monday before closing out the calendar year at Century on December 29.
