MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — For the third time in four years, the Amity Girls Soccer team are heading to the 3A/2A/1A State Semifinals following their 6-1 victory over Brookings-Harbor on Saturday afternoon.
Like they did against Lost River/Bonzana in Tuesday, the Warriors came out aggressive as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first half. Haley Miersma had two goals and Eliza Nisly had one.
The Bruins got a goal back off a corner kick that made it a 3-1 game going into the second half, but unlike their 4-0 victory over the Raiders where they only scored once in the second half, Amity continued to add into their lead
Eliza Nisly got her second goal, Haley Miersma picked up her third and Adie Nisly scored that made it 6-1 Warriors by the 52nd minute.
“It was really important that we just adjust to the style of play that the team we’re playing is doing because we were trying to force through balls against Lost River and it didn’t work very well. I think with this game we did a pretty good job adjusting, ” said Eliza Nisly. “(Brookings-Harbor) played high and patient and we did well playing with their style and getting through balls and we were very successful that way.”
For this senior group, for many of them it’s the third time that they’ve reached to this point. It set the standard moving forward for the program beyond this year with the foundation that they laid this year going into Tuesday’s game with Creswell with the hope that this is the year they’ll get over the hump and reach the 3A/2A/1A State Finals.
“I think this year, all of us seniors are really, really giving it our all. It’s sad that it’s our last year but we are making the most of it,” said Emma Northrop. “I think we’re all really ready for it.”
