SALEM, Ore.– Sprague’s Isaac Tindall has made a name for himself in his lone season with the Olympians.
An Yamhill-Carlton transfer, making the transition from 3A football to 6A ball has been a smooth one points the senior running back. And entering the postseason, the Sprague back is closing in to 1,000-yards on the season. Tindall currently stands at 959 yards on 169 carries going into Friday’s game at Lake Oswego. Contributing well to the 5-4 Olys, who are now in the 6A State Championship Bracket for the second year in a row.
“It’s definitely way more competitive and that’s what I love about it. I think I’m doing a good job, I’m starting both ways this week and made a good contribution at Running Back, I’m an All-Around player, but I think these guys helped back me up a lot, it won’t be possible without them too,” said Tindall.
After a slow start to the season, a 1-3 start to the year a month into the season, Sprague has rallied the troops and saved the season. Winners of four of their final five games, their lone defeat coming to South Medford in Overtime on October 10, the Olys played their way into the Top 16 bracket and gave themselves a chance at the postseason.
“We definitely had a rough start, but I think it took some time for us to find ourselves. Once we did, we started to get into the groove of things,” said Bohdi Jones. “I know our defense has been doing well this whole season and our offense has been doing great, we’re putting points on the board. We’ve been on a winning streak lately, which has been nice, so hopefully that can continue into the playoffs.”
Jones has eight sacks and has forced three fumbles so far this season to help Sprague defensively.
But despite their strong finish to their season, they do start the 6A State Playoffs with a tough opponent. The third-ranked Lake Oswego Lakers on the road on Friday night.
The belief is there for the Olympians however that their best game is yet to come, and they’re hoping that Friday will be that best game to this point of the season to continue on their season beyond Friday.
“We haven’t yet put together our best football game. We definitely have the guys and we got the coaching staff. Anything can happen, it’s Football. But if we go out there tomorrow and put together our best game, it’s 100-percent do-able,” said Tindall.
Kickoff is slated for 7pm at Lake Oswego High School.
