TURNER, Ore.– For the fifth-straight year, the Cascade Volleyball team are Elite 8 bound as they swept St. Helens 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 on Saturday afternoon at Cascade High School
It’s slowly becoming the standard for the Cougars to not just get there, but to place.
State Champions in 2021, State Runner-Up in 2022 that was followed by a third-place finish (2023), and sixth-place finish (2024) the next two years, and now they’re hoping to make it five-in-a-row next weekend in Coos Bay.
“I think we’re pretty blessed to be back here. All of the girls and (Head Coach) Cristina (Williams) has helped create build-up young women to this moment. I’m just really blessed to be out here today and thank God for this year,” said Cascade Senior Amyah Miranda.
The Lions got some momentum tail end of the first set that carried to the second as the 13-seed St. Helens squad pushed the four-seed Cascade squad. The Cougars led 12-10 before pulling away and using the second set momentum to close out the match in three sets.
“It’s nice to be competitive, and i think it puts us in the spirit,” said Miranda. “I think we’re going to continue to work on upholding and uplifting each other. I think the biggest thing for us is staying confident in our players because we have some awesome blessed and amazing girls. So jusr focusing on strong in our unit.”
The Cougars will play Philomath on Friday at 11am at Marshfield High School.
