SALEM, Ore.– In their final game of the season, Scio’s Colton Medeiros cracked a major rushing milestone as he surpassed 1,000 yards on the season during the third quarter of the Loggers 38-0 victory over Blanchet on Thursday.
The milestone came early in the third quarter when Medeiros scored from 14 yards out that brought his total on the day to over 160 yards on the ground.  The touchdown was one of three, two on the ground and one in the air, that the Scio junior had on the day as the Loggers led 31-0 at the 8:05 mark of the third quarter.
“It felt great.  I was over 100 (yards) on the game, and it felt good getting it in at the last game of the season with no postseason game, so this one feels good,” said Medeiros.
Scio, to start, came out fast and aggressive to open their season finale at Blanchet with the traveling Loggers squad leading the Cavaliers 18-0 after the first quarter. By halftime, it was 24-0 going into Medeiros’ final touchdown of the game.
For a squad that only won one game all of last year, Scio took that next step this season by quadrupling their win total to four going into this next offseason behind their strong core looking for that next step, and possibly a playoff berth in 2026.
“It felt good, defensively holding them to nothing and offensively, just pouring it on them in that first quarter.  The second quarter, we slowed down, but we played to our standards in the second half,” said Medeiros.
“We had guys show up all Spring and all Summer to practice Football so we could be better than last year.  We were 1-8 last year, and this year, it’s a step forward. It’s a process, and next year, we will be better,” Medeiros said of the improvement in 2025.
Blanchet had their ups-and-downs this season with injuries and illness but battled through it all as they wrapped up the season 1-8 on the year.  Their lone win came  against Amity on October 11.
With a strong core of juniors, ten in total, and nine freshmen, the Cavs are hoping for a similar step forward in 2026 as Scio did this year when they come back to the gridiron here in a few months.
“It helped us a lot.  We had a lot of injuries, a lot of people sick.  So it just helped with perseverance and getting us ready for next year,” said Blanchet’s Max Weber.  “Just working hard in the offseason, making sure that we stay healthy and making sure that we’re in the best shape heading into the season. I think we can do a little better with that.”
