AURORA, Ore.– It took a few games, but the North Marion Boys Soccer team look as if they’re making the turn for the better as they opened Oregon West Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Newport/Waldport on Thursday afternoon.
Their defense, behind sophomore Jaiden Ortiz Paredes, in goal, pitched their second shutout of the season and gave their offense some room to work as they entered the second half with a 1-0 lead. Juruen Delgado had that first half goal for the Huskies.
“We did pretty well. We obviously have to fix a couple of things, but i think in a couple of weeks, we’re going to have a really strong backline and I hope to do the same as I did last season and even better,” said Ortiz Paredes.
“First half, it didn’t really seem like it, but we took some time and restarted our mentality, and towards the end, we started to score more goals and pressing them more,” adds Delgado.
Their press, their intensity that made the Huskies a formidable squad, reappeared. Ortiz Paredes’ defense channeled the defenses of the past and their offense thanked them with goals from Christian Delgado and Osmar Garcia to give them a cushion on the scoreboard down the stretch in the two teams OWC opener.
