STAYTON, Ore.– After a week off in between their jamboree and this week, it didn’t seem to slow down the Stayton Boys Soccer team much at all.
Following their 5-0 victory over Seaside on Tuesday, the Eagles followed that up with a 4-0 victory over Tillamook on Thursday that featured four different Stayton players scoring in the victory.
Isaiah Dixon, Johnny Garcia, Cesar Perez scored in the opening half with Josiah Dessieux scoring 12 minutes into the second half to give the Eagles the advantage before the offense cooled off over the remainder of the game.
The team took the right step forward from Tuesday’s game points Head Coach Chris Shields, the squad, took some time to warm up against the Seagulls the other day to open the season. Thursday’s game was a little cleaner and showed that progression from Game 1 into 2 will hopefully carry on into this next week of the season.
“We played better from the start, I felt like we were gelling… defensively, we made a few mistakes, we had a few errors here-and-there, but I felt like we were clearner there. Our midfield, Miguel and Johnny, two of the best in the State in their positions, Cesar Perez, he’s our freshman, he got the goal there in the right place, right time kind of scenario, those are all positives, Ty (Williams) makes a great save at one point,” said Shields of Thursday’s game.
Valley Catholic is up next for the Eagles on the road to Valley Catholic, then they’ll wrap up their non-league slate Thursday at home when they host Scappoose. Two good quality teams to lead into Oregon West Conference play on September 25 against Cascade
“Valley Catholic will be a good one. They’re a good team. We’ve played them. I don’t know how many times. They’re always organized, they’ll make it difficult for us and Scappoose, they were physically a little bit bigger last year than us. So we’ll see how we match-up. It’ll be a good end to the preseason,” said Shields.
