SILVERTON, Ore.–  Incoming Silverton junior Henry Briggs has some big shoes to fill at Goalkeeper this Fall.
Briggs will be filling the shoes of Sawyer Stewart, who was the Mid-Willamette Conference Goalkeeper of the year last season and was a 5A Second Team All-State Selection as a senior.  The recent graduate in Stewart left a standard behind, something that Briggs is embracing, knowing that he is prepared to take over the starting job entering this season.
“It’s not really that much pressure. We got a great defense in front of me.  I don’t have to do too much this year.  We’re going to have a good year this year, I think,” said Briggs.  “(Sawyer) taught me how to take leadership of the team.  How to be loud and vocal and help everyone out.”
Just being a presence in the back with his line and helping his team build up to support the attacking half of the field is something that he hopes to continue to improve upon entering August
With a young team last year, with roughly ten sophomores to three juniors and eight seniors, the Foxes are hoping to build off of last year’s foundation and improve on their four-game win total this Fall.
“It was pretty tough last year, but I think we’re better off for it this year.  I think we had like nine sophomores last year. It’s going to be great this year,” said Briggs.
The Foxes will host a jamboree on August 28 before heading to Nelson on September 3 for their first game of the season.
