DALLAS, Ore.–  McNary’s Aris Vasseur has been growing into the starting Quarterback position with the McNary Football Program going back to when he took over the position mid-way through his sophomore year.
Vasseur points towards that Sprague game at the end of that season, where he really got into a groove and started to find his footing.  Something that he continued into his junior season and once more going into his senior year.
“I think I’ve done pretty well. It’s taking a while because there’s so many new pieces with coaches this year.  I think I just have to earn the respect from the other players and become the leader that they know that I can be,” Vasseur said.
Vasseur and the Celtics went to work on Tuesday evening at Dallas High School, where they did some 7-on-7 action against the Dragons and McKay.  It has been one of the few times where the skill positions of McNary have gone in and got some work in this Summer, developing their skills and timing before going into Fall camp next month and in August 29’s home and season opener against Redmond.
It’s been a work in progress, said Vasseur, with Josh Riddell and his staff coming in during the offseason, to get on the same page and ready to go before that Week 0 game with the Panthers.  But it’s coming along.
“It’s taking a while, but developing as a team is helping me develop as a player.  It’s making me and this team better.” said Vasseur.  “It’s just about staying sharp with our cuts and our timing.  Getting the timing down where we know that it can hit at certain times, I think it depends how well we play as a team during this that will help us play better during the season.
“We’re all leading the younger kids, and the younger kids are going to help us win games at the varsity level.  They’re going to follow our lead and just follow us.”
