DAYTON, Ore.– Dayton’s Lou Auvil picked up the game of High School Softball pretty quickly during her freshman year, contributing to a 3A State Runner-Up finish for the Pirates earlier this month.
It was a big learning experience for the young High School athlete, but it pushed her going into this Summer Ball season with the MVP 16U squad.
“It was a big learning experience for us,” starts Auvil.  “It was fun, especially earning a spot because you’re competing with all the other girls for a spot. It was fun,” Auvil said of this past season.
“It’s grown me a lot. It’s helped me become more of a leader, playing with other girls that weren’t older than me and all playing with a group of same aged girls.  I think it kind helped grow me as a leader a lot,” Auvil adds about her Summer Ball season so far.  “Playing fast, being smart on what I swing and see what I’m doing when I’m fielding with plays that I’m making.”
Auvil went 3-for-3 on the day with MVP, who finished third in the Gold Bracket on Sunday at Dayton High School.  Wrapping up a weekend that saw the squad go 3-1 in the four games that they played.  Elizabth Kudna led the offense on the day with three hits and driving in two runs on the day.  Isabelle Arthur struck out five in two innings of play, and Addison DuLong pitched two-and-two-third innings, striking out two batters.
“We’ll figure it out. We’ll get our energy up.  We definitely will have to work on hitting faster and being smarter with what we’re doing, but we’ll get there,” said Auvil.
The MVP 16U squad heads to Wallace Marine Park this next week, playing at the Stars and Stripes Tournament.
