STAYTON, Ore.– Gervais’ Monty Andres has been known as a jumper.
As a sophomore, he qualified for State in the High Jump and returned this past Spring as a junior, where he finished fifth in 2A. To go with that placement jump, he also added a 13th place finish in the Long Jump at the 2A State Meet as he now prepares for one last run and jump towards State once more as a member of the Cougars Track and Field team.
For Andres, his success has come down to mindset. Instead of jumping just to jump, he was jumping to win. Focusing more on technique, and he started to climb up the final results at the meets he was competing in. Winning it all is the goal for the senior, who finished 12th in the Long and Triple Jumps Friday at the Regis Twilight Meet.
“I think I want to win in everything this year and I think I can win in High Jump and get a high-enough mark in Triple (Jump) and Long (Jump) at State,” said Andres. “Working on technique… lifting weights and trying to get more athletic and stronger so I can use that technique, and I think it’s going really well.”
Ron Andres finished tenth in the Pole Vault. Ben Cam finished 14th in the 100-meter dash. Angel Santos finished 15th in the 110-meter hurdles. Allison Chastain finished four events for Gervais. Finishing as high as 28th in the 400-meter race as an individual and helping the Cougars 4×100 meter relay team, along with Bailee Kubishta,, Anahi Uribe and Miranda Madrigal, to finish 19th at the Twilight Meet on Friday.
