STAYTON, Ore.–  In a game in which the offense wasn’t rolling, the Regis defense came in clutch when they needed it the most Tuesday afternoon to open their 2A/1A Special District 3 league series with Monroe/Alsea.
After surrendering an early run off a Fielder’s Choice in the opening inning, Regis buckled down defensively and held the Dragons scoreless the rest of the way in their 2-1 victory at Regis High School.
The Rams turned to their defense, which was error-free in it’s approach and Owen Eaton did all he could to keep his team in the game.  The sophomore arm went the distance, striking out six as eventually his offense gave him a lead to work with in the third.  That was when Rook Smith drove in a run off a double, and Regis took advantage of a Monroe/Alsea balk to take the lead
“That defense was locked down.  I mean zero errors. That’s a really good stat line for us.  Replicating it, just keep this momentum going.  This is a good team that we beat today,” said Eaton.  “Get the energy up, get the bats hot, and hit the ball.”
The two teams meet again on Friday for a twin-bill down at Monroe, a Regis victory gives the Rams the regular season league title while a Monroe/Alsea sweep gives them the league title.  The first game starts at 2 pm.
