SALEM, Ore.– The Sprague Baseball’s 9-2 victory over South Eugene Tuesday afternoon was a good bridge between how their Spring Break trip to Anaheim ended and what they hope the remainder of the season will go now back in Oregon.
The offense and defense flowed as the Olympians jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the Axe.  Leading by that margin by the time the fourth inning started.  South Eugene plated two in the fifth inning, only to see Sprague respond in just two runs of their own  to take a 9-2 lead down the stretch.  The score remained 9-2 when the final out was recorded in the non-league match-up for their third-straight win.
The Spring Break trip gave Sprague some valuable experience entering this year.  After falling to Dana Hills and El Dorado to start the trip, Sprague picked up wins against San marco and Servite before heading back to Oregon with that success carrying over.
“It was great to get some games under our belts, the last two games we’ve played really good, so that was good to get on a roll and figure out how it looks out there,” said Riley Wilson.
“It was a great learning experience for everybody.  We played good competition and we ended it with two wins.  It was good momentum going into the season….We’ve really come together as a team, and that’s great,” adds Grant Moyer.  “We’ve been hitting well. Our defense has backed up, and our pitching are doing their job. It was great.”
Moyer led the Olympians with two hits while Cameron VanKempen had a team-high 3RBI’s in the victory.  Holden Rasmussen struck out seven in four-and-a-two-third innings pitching.  Wilson, who came in for relief of Rasmussen in the fifth inning, struck out one and held South Eugene to one hit in two-and-a-third innings pitched.
Sprague will be back in action on Wednesday when they’ll host Cleveland.
