Wrestling Round-Up

Local Salem-area teams took part in the Reser’s Tournament of Champions, the Hood River Valley Girls Invitational, the Santiam Christian Screamin’ Eagle Tournament, The Golden Yam Challenge and the Tualatin Invitational this past weekend.

Here’s a Round-Up of the action:

Reser`s V Tournament of Champions 2025
In Sherwood, Silverton’s Bo Zucher (165) won his weight class at the Reser’s Tournament of Champions.  Dallas’ Sully Hill (132), Sprague’s Sullivan Puckett (165) finished Runner-Up in their respective weight classes.
Carson Langford (190) and Brash Henderson (215)finished third in Redmond.  Sprague’s Kenya Johnson (190), Cascade’s Matthew Hinkle (215) each finished fourth.  Dallas’ Tyler Basey (144), Sprague’s Carson Hunsaker (175), finished sixth.


Hood River Valley Girls Invitational 2025
At Hood River, McKay finished third as a team with Sarahi Chavez (100) winning her weight class.  Aileen Paniagua (100) finished third. Six Scots were placed at the tournament.
McNary finished seventh as a team with McKenna Unger (140), winning her weight class.  Six Celtics places in the tournament.
Silverton saw McKayla Bonham (120), and Nova Graham (140) placed Runner-Up in their weight classes as four of their five wrestlers placed.
Sprague saw Evelyn Wirfs (170, fifth) and Elle McAllister (145, sixth) placed.

Santiam Christian Screamin’ Eagle
In Adair Village, Scio finished third as a team with Ryder Acuff (138) and Arley Lebard (157) each finishing Runner-Up in their respective weight classes Zander Cate (113), Colter Traeger (144), Hunter Davis (150)Colton Medeiros (165) all finished third as nine Logger wrestlers placed. 
Regis placed tenth as a team with Eli Bischoff (157), finishing third in his weight class to anchor a Rams squad that saw three Regis wrestlers place.
Kennedy and Amity also had placers in the tournament.

The Golden Yam Challenge
Boys Tournament
At Yamhill-Carlton High School, Willamina’s Eden Stanton (126), Adonijah Stanton (132), Devin Huston (157), Kaden Konovalov (165) and Landon Risseeuw (215) all won their respective weight classes as the Bulldogs  won the Team Title with 244 points, 74 points ahead of Yamhill-Carlton.
North Marion finished seventh as a team with five placers and Aaron Benito Romero finishing second at 285 as the Huskies highest placer.
Sheridan finished eighth as a team with three placers, led by Joseph Trammell, win at 285 pounds.
Girls Tournament
The Willamina Girls Wrestling team won the event as a team by two points over Sisters.  Zoe Brewer (110), Sadie Risseeuw (155), and Lainee Hibdon-Barton (170) all won their weight classes to lead the Bulldog charge.
The North Marion Girls Wrestling team finished sixth as a team as Ambar Benito (190) won her weight class, and Esther Pastrana finished second  at 120 to lead the charge.
The Scio Girls Wrestling team finished seventh as a team at the Golden Yam Challenge with Kayla Borregard winning the 125-pound title.  Emily Zamudio (110) finished second.

Tualatin Invitational
In Tualatin,  the South Salem Boys Wrestling team finished eighth with Ashenafi Kolb (144) winning his weight class. Damian Zaragoza (157)Talmadge Lashmett (175) and Maddox Santana (215) all finished fourth.
West Salem’s Kitiona Shinkle finished Runner-Up at 215, Trask Hapburn finished third at 175 as the Titans finished 13th as a team.
