SILVERTON, Ore. It was just West Albany’s night Tuesday night against Silverton in Mid-Willamette Conference play.
The first quarter alone, the Bulldogs saw both sides of the ball going. The defense held the Foxes to 11 points with their offense nearly unstoppable with 23 first-half points. Gavin Aguilar was unstoppable with 16 points in the first quarter to help pace West Albany, who were playing without Owen Hopkins.
Even without Hopkins, West Albany just found ways to make up for his absence to pick up their second MWC victory of the season.
“It was great. We were playing team basketball. We had a great game plan, and we came out hot. It got the team going, and it went with everyone else. We were on the same page,” said Aguilar. “We had to come out strong in the second half to make sure they won’t make a comeback with their momentum. When we stopped their momentum, it made a difference for us.”
West Albany exposed the weaknesses that the Foxes had in the game, something that they’ll look to improve upon their next two days of practice in preparation for their road game at Corvallis on Friday.
Off to a 5-3 start to the year, Silverton’s hoping to continue their run into the always difficult MWC conference.
“We’re just out here grinding every day. We’ve definitely improved compared to last year. The sky’s the limit for us this year,” said Teeney.
Teeney scored 12 points for Silverton, as did Sam Haugen. Aguilar led the Bulldogs with 22 points, West Albany will host cross-town rival South Albany on Friday.
