KEIZER, Ore.– New McNary Head Girls Basketball coach Brittany Dunn has been in the Celtic program now going into her eighth season as she embarks on this new chapter of her coaching career:
Head Varsity Coach.
There’s some nerves, there’s some excitement as well with it. Dunn has seen a lot of these girls grow up in front of her, some through their older siblings. And Dunn has that drive to make sure she does well with these girls.
“It really is exciting and an honor because I live in the community, I love the community and I know the girls and their families and now we got siblings coming through,” said Dunn. “There is nerves because I want do to well with the girls. We have a great staff, they’re great. The girls, I couldn’t ask for a first group so I’m really excited to see where this season takes us.”
With a senior-heavy squad this year, it’s making the transition easy for Dunn thanks to their unique leadership qualities. Something that Dunn has leaned on as she’s getting her feet underneath her in the new role.
“They’re awesome, they’re amazing. They all have leadership qualities in different ways. I’ve leaned on them a lot through Summer Ball and into the first week. They’re the first ones out here and they’re getting everyone going and are really good teammates,” Dunn said. “I’m just hoping with this last year it’s just a unity thing, we have good chemistry. Overall I just want them to have fun, I want it to be impactful for them and win some games this year.”
McNary opens the season on December 4 at Summit. The Celtics will host Sherwood December 14 for their home opener.
