MEDFORD, Ore.–  The Cascade offense hit their stride late in their 10-0 victory over Glide on Tuesday afternoon to close out their North Medford Tournament performance.
The Cougars found themselves in a defensive battle with the Wildcats through the first four-and-a-half innings of the contest.  It was 0-0 as Maddy Tingle and Samantha Moyers dueled with one another up to this point.
Tingle and Taylor Bays have really stepped up into the pitching roles for Cascade this Spring.  The duo have been splitting games and split the games on Saturday with Bays pitching in the first game, going five innings against St. Helens with three strikeouts.
Tingle took the second game, striking out seven in her outing against Glide.
“I think this year is going to be a lot better because we have the confidence and we’ve been working together.  We’re able to communicate better and root for each other more,” said Tingle.
In the fifth inning, Cascade got on the board against the Wildcats.  Scoring four runs, they gave Tingle some room to work and the Sophomore thanked them by giving the offense another zero to work with in the top half of the sixth inning.
And it was the bottom half of the sixth inning in which the bats really came around.  Plating six runs, the Cougars were able to close out the game in six innings via the Mercy Rule and to close out the trip 2-2 as they continued on with their tough preseason slate.
Cascade has played eight games in nine days.  A daunting task, but the reps will go a long way for them, points Head Coach Marty Jeppsen.  Especially against the 4A team’s they’ve played like The Dalles/Dufur, Scappoose and St. Helens.
“It’s going to help us a ton.  All these 4A teams we’re playing, we’re going to see them down the road somewhere if we go where we want to go, we’ll see them again.  Getting these reps against them and knowing what we’re capable of is a big help,” said Jeppsen.  “That’s why I like coming down here, that’s why I like playing a strong, non-conference schedule.  I like playing those teams early.”
