SALEM, Ore. — For the second straight night, the Amity Girls Basketball team proved that it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog as they took down yet another 6A squad in the Capitol City Classic on Sunday night.
And. This time around. They didn’t need to wait until the fourth quarter to make their move.
They overcame the Grants Pass physicality, matching it with their own to frustrate the Lady Cavers. Eventually wearing them down as their lead grew.
The Warriors led 16-8 after 1, then it grew to 30-16 by halftime, by game’s end it was hovering around 20 as they took the game 50-28.
“It took us a little while to get comfortable yesterday and I think coming into this today, they were comfortable. You can see that they were flying around and they weren’t tentative today,” said Amity Head Coach Jed McMullen. “This group they always bring the defense and the intensity. That’s never an issue.
“They do let you play more physical at this level and I thought we adapted well from yesterday into today and hopefully we can make a leap from today to tomorrow.”
That intensity they faced Sunday will be similar to that they’ll play against South Salem on Monday night for the CCC Camry Bracket Championship Game at Chemeketa Community College at 8:30pm
Three Warriors scored in double-figures. Eliza Nisly led all scorers with 11 points with Haley Miersma and Alyssa McMullen each scoring ten points each in the win.
Eva Lindell led Grants Pass with 11 points.
